Speculation: Could Sims 3 Seasons be on the horizon?

Amy over at Sims 3 Gamer brought up an interesting point… Seasons may just be on the horizon for the Sims 3 series.  While at E3, she spoke with Sims 3 Pets producer Ben Bell and he mentioned that fans would love to see University return.  When asked, he clearly stated that University wasn’t the next expansion they were working on.  When she then brought up a question on if Seasons will be coming to the series, he went quiet.  According to Amy, “everyone was quite tight lipped; I didn’t even get a response.

To further her point, she posted how these two horse images from pets contain the colored trees that we all see during the autumn months.  Now, it doesn’t mean that seasons will also be introduced with Pets, but it could possibly hint that it is indeed coming.  After all, I believe the console versions of the game takes place in the autumn months…and since horses are for the PC version, it makes you wonder…

As much as I hope that Seasons is next, the promo shots always seem to allude to features that aren’t there.

Here’s hoping it will be EP 6!

  3. Gregory says:

This doesn’t mean shit because remember on the world adventures pictures in France it show trees like that.

And jud your missing to much stuff so you need to start keeping up your job ;-)

@Gregory – I’ve fallen behind, no arguing with that fact! Real life has been busy, busy, busy trying to get the various house projects done and over with. I knew this year from the start I wouldn’t have much time with the site as I’d like to – hence why the staff has been a big help. :)

I’ve only had about an hour with Generations, and hardly had any time for any sort of gaming!

Just keep an eye out ;)

  5. Pjadek says:

Ben Bell said that the new world has a yellow brown color theme.

Who knows? I personally want university! And is that really a sim guru?…

  7. Iaaaaan says:

    That guru is a fake.

  8. Lillian says:

    I want a vacations expansion! ):

  9. Karen says:

Well I hope seasons is the next EP after Pets then the game will be somewhat complete for me. Since I’ve been wanting both in the sims 3 since the base game came out.

  10. Argh! Stop! I’ll get excited and then be disappointed again…. :P

    This is very promising…!

    Judhudson,

If those pictures represent the town in the PC version of the Sims 3 pets, which most likely they do, because from what I understand the console versions do not have horses, its highly unlikely there will be a sims 3 seasons. I doubted that they’d make a sims 3 seasons ever since I saw the fall colors of some of the trees in World Adventures. Even ignoring everything else, it doesn’t make a lot of sense for them to make trees with fall colors if they are going to have seasons. I also don’t think that pets will include seasons. So I have feeling that they will never make a seasons expansion pack for the Sims 3.

It may bother some players, but not me. What I’m really hoping for after pets is another urban expansion pack, where we’ll have a city like Late Night’s “Bridge Port,” but will have new downtown venues that are not clubs or bars.

@Damienf – no doubts about it, Seasons will come. There’s money to be had and The Sims 3 still has another 2 (possibly 3) years of life left! I too hope for an urban pack, that’d be sweet :D It’s just a matter of when we’ll see seasons. It could be that it’s taking them awhile to program/tinker with the rain, snow, misc weather elements. They got to make sure graphic wise it doesn’t bog down people’s games (weather will do that for many PC games, I remember playing Crysis on PC with 60fps, and when I got to the snow area, it dipped to 20.

I do recall they had issues back in The Sims 2 where they had rain/weather elements real early in development, but had issues of it not detecting the roofs and thus it rained inside the house. Of course, doubt they have that issue now seeing as they are more familiar with programming weather into the game :)

If after pets is not an expansion with
seasons. You have to take it for granted: That the sims 3 will not be climate system. This will be immensely
    disappointing for many including me

I feel Seasons may be 2 EPs down the road. Pets, EP6, then Seasons would be EP7 if the rumors are true.

  15. Thomas says:

Well what I do know is Ben Bell has already said and confirmed that the town for The Sims 3 Pets console game is an autumn New England, Massachusetts-like town with an orange, yellow, and red warm feel to it! Hummm…

that and seasons/weather will increase system requirements. maybe doubling them.

  17. LDC says:

@ Lillian World Adventures is as close to a vacations expansion as you can get…..

  18. MATZ says:

    Please EA, Weather!

  19. CCB says:

Combining Pets with Seasons is a bad idea. Since there are a limitation on how much items and features in a single EP. There will be a significant reduction and simplification in almost everything.

About the colored trees or autumn as a indication of seasons, I disagree. Because there’s no fallen leaves on the grass.

SimGuruGraham has confirmed that the town in the trailer is a modified Riverview. Which is the same thing they did in the first trailer for Ambitions as well.

i want seasons. pets and seasons make great changes in game. i just do not want to wait too much. they make very few pack in a year. we wait and get bored with sims 3 and do not play it till new pack. 5 expansion packs per year would be perfect. stuff packs are nice but 2 per year is ok.

    Joe,

Two per year is enough. It may seem like a long time to wait, but trust me its not. Six months is not that long. Most games only come out with one or two expansion packs total and people who make them, rarely release more than one in same year. If EA were to release five per year, they wouldn’t add much content, and the quality would really suffer.

  23. Jfmeplayer says:

It’s more than obvious they are making a Seasons EP, they wouldn’t put the weather hiding in the game files for nothing

  24. soily says:

When my sim had a bachelorette party on the beach she had and interaction “talk about weather” available but I have only seen it the one time so I think weather must be close :)

  25. Alexis says:

I think seasons is close also. The other day I was playing and my little girl sim kept having an interaction pop up that was “look out window” I distinctly remember that one from seasons. The thing is you can’t make the sims do it. When you click on a window no options come up so perhaps it is some hidden hint from EA that they think most people would miss.

  26. uknortherner says:

The look out window interaction has always been there since the game’s release.

  27. fluttereyes says:

Aren’t the trees there just Maple trees which we already have in the game?

I remember back when Sims 3 first came out I looked for and found the expensive software they use to make the plants and trees, I didn’t see any plants with winter transitions at that time. I must find it again and have a better look.
