Is The End of The Sims Social Near?

Business Insider has an interesting article on The Sims Social and Playfish. According to them and unnamed sources, EA India is now in charge of The Sims Social. This is supposedly where these games go to die. Also from these guys, failed social games by EA/Playfish used to be sent to their Shanghai studio instead, but they have supposedly been working on SimCity Social for about 2 years. True or false? Who knows for sure.

Electronic Arts has handed the keys to The Sims Social, one of its top social games, over to its Playfish India studio—where social games are sent to be maintained with slight updates until they are discontinued, according to a sources close to the matter. The Sims Social will still get some updates, but the Playfish India team is mostly “just going to keep the lights on,” our source familiar with the plans said.

Isn’t The Sims Social one of the most popular games on Facebook? Or was it just a hype that has finally died down?

Ahahah, I hope it does close, it was a rubbish game.

Hopefully it’ll make way for a proper Sims online game.

I sure hope it’s the end! Such a terrible game. EA really needs to revive The Sims Online.

Heh, I wouldn’t pay $13 for an archery range in The Sims 3, so why would I pay that much for archery in the Sims Social? Maybe if they didn’t overprice so many items and implement weird design choices like social interaction costing energy and needing many different ingredients just to build a chair, this game could have turned out okay. But it didn’t…I’m pretty worried about SimCity Social turning out the same way and tarnishing the classic Maxis brand.

I have a feeling those that complain about Sims 3 store prices have never played a facebook game.
The prices there are just insane. I once spent $4 on a freaking purple cat…. Never again.

I spent way more on Farmville than I did in the Sims3 store and I buy everything in the store and I didn’t buy everything in FV. Sim Social is not doing Sims 3 any good. If I had never played PC Sims before and I only played Sims Social, I wouldn’t touch Sims 3 with a 10 ft pole. I would get so angry at the FB games and they started to rule my life so I blocked them all and quit cold turkey. I am much happier with Sims 3 and it does put things in perspective.

    I don’t care either way.

I feel sorry for the people who did actually spend their money on virtual items. Might as well just burn your money. At least with the Sims 3 store, the stuff you buy you can reinstall.

I doubt we’ll see that in Sims 4. It’ll be just like Sims Freeplay, just you wait and see.

Why on earth would anyone spend real money on a Facebook game. The Sims 3 is understandable, but Facebook?

    Burn it with fire.
